Partial-birth abortion ban ready for vote

Even most pro-choicers can't stomach this procedure. This time there will be no veto. It's a given.

Even more troubling

Take a look at this: :: Gay and Lesbian Family Ministry :: Catholic Diocese of Cleveland ::

This is an officially-sanctioned church ministry by the Cleveland diocese. It looks like something the local PFLAG chapter put together.

For all the inclusive talk, the page does link to the Church's teaching on homosexuality from the Catechism. Gays have to accept that, and no amount of feel good talk and multi-colored graphics are going to mute that fact.

Who are you? Who-who, who-who...

It's Catholic! It's Episcopalian! It's both! It's Holy Apostles Church which claims to have two altars and serve both faiths.

What?!

Does the Vatican know about this? While I more than no one would like to see Episcopalians and the Orthodox Churches in full communion with The Holy See (as Catholics, under the full authority of the Holy Father and a subject to the Magisterium - not some "includive" hybrid which validates all positions), my initial reaction to this was one of concern. This setup calls into question so many rules of the faith, not the least of which is the celebration of the Eucharist.

At what cost Ecumenicalism? Where do we draw the line and say "that's nice but we believe this."

Sunday is beer grab day for convenience store bandits

Ah, those blue laws, saving our souls by keeping us dry. It's not supposed to work the way it has been in South Carolina. Some thirsty folks have come to the conclusion that if you can't buy beer on Sunday, steal beer instead. And get this: bootleggers have sprung up!

We now return to our Sunday Matinee Movie, Thunder Road already in progress. Afterward, stay tuned as granny whips up some rheumatiz medicine in the cement pond on The Beverly Hillbillies.

School apologizes for Nazi flag flap

Is a high school band waving a Nazi flag during halftime an "error in judgment"?! Boy howdy! And on the first day of Rosh Hoshanah! How can anybody be so dense!?!

Here's another great quote from the same cluless band director:

The director said the musicians didn’t anticipate the reaction of the crowd at Hillcrest High School. “We were booed,” he told the newspaper on Monday. “We had things thrown at us. We were cursed.”

No...really?! Imagine that!

Let's hear it for bands playing "Louie Louie" or a medley of Burt Bacharach hits over a tribute to Der Fuhrer. Hey band director: Ditch the high concept bullshit, you're only killing time so we can take a dump.
