Talking sense

The era of large invading and occupying forces is not done. Senator Hutchison realizes this. The more boots we have on the ground in Iraq, the more effective we will be in controlling the situation. That's not politically optimal for the White House, but necessary to fix the Iraq problem.

Tasteless on the surface

If the new editor at GQ thinks he is distinguishing himself with a picture that morphs George W. Bush into Jesus, he needs to realize his little joke is misplaced.

What he seeks to convey is distasteful. He mock's Bush's faith in Christ, and uses a the Sacred Heart as an ornamental touch.

At the same time, the Face of Christ is in all of us, our President included. Perhaps one day, the folks at GQ will know this to be true.

Enough already!

Fox news is enjoying the California Recall too much, hence this headline from their webpage:

Alright! We get it! He has a thick accent...now stop it!

Paul Newman Is Still HUD

I knew Paul Newman was a lefty and a bit cranky at times, but I never knew he had a slightly off kilter sense of humor. Although I don't agree with his politics, Newman's Op-Ed piece for the New York Times is good for a few chuckles.

Had it been written by Maureen Dowd, I'd be denying all of this.

Real Anti-Catholic Bias

Deal Hudson is a perceptive and insightful Catholic journalist. In his article Real Anti-Catholic Bias, he makes a convincing case for identifying the left as increasingly anti-Catholic. We know they embrace a secularism that knows no bounds, and that the wacko left is turning more and more anti-semetic, so its only natural that the holy mother Church is next on the hit list.

To me it's very simple: which political party condones baby killing, the destruction of marriage, moral relativism and so forth. It bears repeating because certain Catholics, especially those identified with big labor, don't seem to get it.

Scumbag

This is what happens when you go beyond believing that winning is the only thing, and start believing that you are above accountability and the law. This from a supposedly Christian institution of learning. Celizic lets bliss have it, and rightfully so.

How to make your own electricity

My dad has always talked about buying a generator. This article sheds some light on the subject.

Madness in Academia

The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor is offering a class on 'How to be Gay.'

You'll be amazed at the trained lab mice in this class.

PoliticsLA.com official straw poll results + DG analysis

Yo heard it here first, but here are the PoliticsLA.com Straw Poll Results from their homepage:

"Today, delegates at the 'Stampede to Victory' voted in a Straw poll for the upcoming elections. Delegates included party activists, elected officials, donors and others from around the state.

The results were...

***GUBERNATORIAL RESULTS***
Hunt Downer - 54%
Bobby Jindal - 33%
Jay Blossman - 6%
Alan Allgood - 2%
Randy Ewing - 2%
Buddy Leach - 1%
Kathleen Blanco - <1%
Richard Ieyoub - <1%
Mike Stagg - <1%

***Lt. GOVERNOR RESULTS***
Kirt Bennett - 70%
Mitch Landrieu - 9%
Melinda Schwegmann - 8%
Stephen Rue - 7%
Rick Ankesheiln - 5%

Thanks to Charlie Davis, Kristi Tisdale and everybody from Politicsla.com for conducting a fair and ethical poll. The presence of Democrats on the ballot was startling to say the least, but it proved that even among so-called Republicans in a poll ostensibly gauging the Republican vote, there are complete idiots who vote for people like Mitch Landrieu and Buddy Leach.

If I were Kirt Bennett, I'd be as happy as a clam. His whopping 70% shows that this party is firmly united behind his candidacy. It's very clear that this party wants black candidates wearing the Republican mantle.

The biggest victory belongs to Hunt Downer. For someone who used to be a Democrat, he sure has done his job in winning over the party loyalists. His TV spots are coming on strong.

On the other hand, Bobby Jindal's support was not as strong as I had expected. From what I could observe, the majority of his delegate votes came from the College Republicans who got in for free (a large number of them showed up right as Bobby was going to speak.) I'll take support from rank-and-file Republicans over the devotion of a few college students, who as a group have the worst record of voter turnout among all the demographics.

Speaking of college students, spa boy Jay Blossman was more like frat boy in the jokey persona he portrayed on the dais. Blossman did some cutting up with Hunt - its clear the two candidates have male-bonded - but where Hunt used his humor to relax the crowd, Blossman relied on it to answer the questions. His responses to substantive questions were about as frothy as a pint of fast-poured Abita Amber. Jay really ought to consider doing Hunt a favor and sitting out this round.
